A meeting of the Central Consultative Committee of Awami National Party (ANP) was held today in Islamabad. It was presided by the party’s Central President Asfandyar Wali Khan and representatives from all the four provinces participated in the meeting.
ANP’s consultative committee analysed the electoral process during the recent general elections held in the country and opined that the pre-poll process was seriously rigged by violent attacks. ANP was attacked 31 times during its campaign in which scores of party activists were martyred and wounded. It was a broad day dacoity against the mandate of the people of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. Neither the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) nor the Care-Taker Government of Pakistan, addressed the concerns of ANP presented to them in written form. Inspite of the serious reservations of the party regarding pre-poll rigging, ANP decides to accept the results of the general elections of the country. As custodians of democratic traditions, we will play our role in strengthening democratic process in the country. We hope that the elected political parties would fulfil their promises made to the people during the election campaign. We also hope that the elected parties will respect each other’s mandate which means that whichever party is elected in different provinces or the center, should be allowed to form government.
ANP’s central president deeply appreciated the courage and determination of the party workers who campaigned for the party by taking serious risks to their lives. Our activists, apart from burying the dead bodies of their near and dear ones, also campaigned and voted for the party amidst terrorist attacks on them. The party will remember their services and sacrifices for ever.
By referring to a quotation of Quad-e-Tehreek Khan Abdul Wali Khan, Asfandyar Wali Khan said that we can be kept out of parliament through conspiracies but no one can ever throw us out of politics. The meeting hoped decisions about party’s future political strategy and course of action will be taken in a meeting of the Central Executive Committee of the party, to be held on the 16th of May, in Islamabad.
